5 Tricks to banish Cellulite
5 tricks to banish cellulite
With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about preparing your body for the beach. As irritating as it is, cellulite is an almost unavoidable part of female life: with over 90% of women over the age of 30 developing it in some form. This doesn’t mean it has to shatter your confidence, however, as there are plenty of ways to cure or at least diminish the appearance of those dreaded dimples. With these five top tips, we’ll show you how to win the war against that pesky orange peel effect - once and for all!
1. Build up a sweat
Whilst cellulite appears on both skinny and overweight women alike, ultimately the more body fat you have, the more likely you are to have cellulite. Therefore, toning this fat into muscle will help reduce the appearance of those ego-deflating dimples. Using a foam roller on the back of your legs is said to be an especially effective method and is also a great way to help muscle recover post-workout.
2. Book yourself in for a massage
Vigorous massage is thought to increase blood circulation and reduce the build-up of fluids in cellulite-prone zones; therefore, improving the overall appearance of the skin. Finally, a good excuse for a trip to the masseuse!
3. It's coffee time
The good news is that both caffeine and retinoids have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite. In coffee scrubs, exfoliating particles and caffeine work together to stimulate blood flow to the surface of the skin and to provide nourishing antioxidants to make the skin suppler. Applying a topical retinoid can also work effectively as it improves the skin’s overall elasticity and therefore diminishes the signs of cellulite.
4. Acoustic Wave Therapy
'But, do I really have to work up a sweat, foam roll myself all over before smothering myself head to toe in old coffee grinds?’, we hear you ask. For many, this used to be the only alternative to expensive, invasive and often risky procedures such as liposuction. Fortunately, a miracle treatment known as Acoustic Wave Therapy has now emerged on the scene, with 60 years of testing and research behind it and thousands of happy users (including Madonna). 5. Say 'No' to sunburn
Whilst you’re doing all this hard work prepping for the beach, it’s worth noting that the sun’s rays, as pleasant as they are, do no favours for a cellulite-prone skin. The UV rays can damage collagen, thus making the skin less firm and the dreaded orange peel more noticeable. To combat this, remember to invest in a good quality, long-lasting SPF and to slather it on religiously throughout the day. Ready to make a change?
