Fat Reduction Options - Vanquish ME Vs. CoolSculpting

Non-invasive body contouring treatments are an incredibly popular method for dealing with stubborn fat. Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting are two of the UK's most popular methods of non-surgical fat reduction, but what's the difference between them and which is better? In this article, we compare the two treatments and explain why we choose to offer Vanquish ME here at Wimbledon Clinical Aesthetics.

What are fat reduction treatments?

Fat reduction treatments are cosmetic procedures that involve the removal of unwanted fat to improve the contours of the body. Some of them, such as liposuction, are surgical procedures that require an anaesthetic and involve an extensive recovery process. Non-surgical fat reduction treatments, such as Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting, use advanced technology to remove fat without damaging any surrounding tissues, and they involve a very minimal recovery process. They're a great way to improve the physique without having to follow a strict diet and exercise regime. They're also popular for tackling pockets of stubborn fat that are hard to lose even with plenty of exercise and a good diet.

What is Vanquish ME?

Vanquish ME uses radiofrequency energy to safely heat up fat cells in order to destroy them. It is able to selectively target fat due to the lower water content in these cells, so it does not harm any surrounding tissues or cause any discomfort to the skin. The destroyed fat cells are then processed by the body and eliminated permanently. Since the fat cells themselves are removed, fat will not return to the same area of the body again in the future. The body contouring results are therefore permanent.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting uses low temperatures to permanently eliminate fat cells. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than other types of cells, which means it's possible to destroy them without harming any surrounding tissues. Once destroyed, the body processes the destroyed fat cells so that they are permanently eliminated and fat cannot return to the same area.

What areas of the body can the treatments work on?

Vanquish ME is suitable for treating the abdomen, flanks, arms and legs. CoolSculpting works on the same areas, and for some people, it's also suitable for the chin area. Vanquish ME has the benefit of offering the largest applicator on the market for the belly and flank areas, meaning it can treat these areas as efficiently as possible. It's an excellent method of body contouring for those with stubborn love handles and lower belly fat. CoolSculpting has a smaller applicator which means treatments take longer and more sessions are necessary than with Vanquish ME.

Is Vanquish ME or CoolSculpting more effective in eliminating fat?

Both CoolSculpting and Vanquish ME have been studied clinically to determine efficacy. CoolSculpting offers average fat destruction of 20 to 25% per treatment. Vanquish ME offers 25 to 30% of fat destruction per treatment. This means that Vanquish ME is more efficient in eliminating fat than CoolSculpting.

What are the potential side effects of Vanquish ME?

Vanquish ME is a contactless fat removal treatment which means there's minimal impact on surrounding tissues and therefore very few side effects. Some people notice that the treated areas feel warm and appear a little red after treatment. This dissipates within a few hours. There is no pain associated with the treatment and you can continue with your normal daily activities as soon as your appointment is over.

What are the potential side effects of CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting involves drawing fatty tissues into an applicator cup with a gentle vacuum. This process can be painful and it can lead to bruising and soreness for days or weeks following treatment. Some people experience numbness in treated areas due to nerve damage, and others notice an increase in skin sensitivity in the targeted area. The skin may also appear swollen or discoloured afterwards. Usually, these side effects dissipate with time.

Do Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting help with loose skin?

Many people are interested in body sculpting to improve the appearance of loose skin that occurred as a result of weight loss or pregnancy. CoolSculpting does not help to improve the appearance of loose skin. It can also be particularly uncomfortable for those with excess skin since the suction process can tug uncomfortably on the skin. Vanquish ME is designed primarily for fat reduction but it has the added bonus of increasing collagen and elastin production. This means it can help to improve the appearance of loose skin while eliminating fat to tighten the contours of the body.

Who is suitable for Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting treatments?

CoolSculpting is only suitable for those with enough fat in the treatment area that it can be suctioned into the applicator. It also isn't suitable for those who are very obese. Ideal candidates have a BMI of less than 30 and a pinchable pocket of fat in the area they're hoping to treat. Vanquish ME is suitable for anyone no matter what their BMI is. There is no need to have any pinchable fat since the treatment is applied with no need for direct contact with the body. If you'd like to decrease the circumference of your abdomen, thighs or upper arms, you're a great candidate for Vanquish ME regardless of your BMI.

How long does it take to see results with Vanquish ME?

Like most types of non-surgical body contouring treatment, multiple sessions of Vanquish ME are required to achieve optimum results. A treatment plan is tailored to you according to the areas you want to contour. Most clients undergo one treatment each week for four weeks, with each session lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. Since it takes time for the body to process destroyed fat cells, the shape of the body gradually changes over several weeks. You'll begin to see results within two or three weeks, but optimal results will be visible after a couple of months.

How long does it take to see results with CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting usually requires at least three sessions for each treatment area. Treatment sessions are at least 30 days apart because the tissue needs plenty of time to heal in between sessions. People usually begin to see results with CoolSculpting after around 3 weeks, but it takes two months until results become really visible. Some people don't see full results until as much as six months after their last treatment.

Why do we prefer Vanquish ME body contouring over CoolSculpting?
