Soprano Titanium Vs Candela Laser Hair Removal

Laser technology has developed dramatically over the past two decades. And two manufacturers stand out, Candela & Soprano; Here, we look at the top two machines in the UK for laser hair removal.

Find out the fundamental differences between these two machines. We break down the qualities and specs.

Laser Wavelength, best comparison?

Laser hair removal works by light the energy absorbed by the pigment in the hair to destroy hair follicles, stopping regrowth.

Three different laser wavelengths can be used for this purpose, each suited to other hair and skin types.

1. ND: Yag laser wavelengths to catch the deep follicles.

2. The Alex wavelength is the best for shallow hairs,

3. Diode wave length suits all hairs and works around the depth that the bulk of hairs in the body lie, the best all-rounder.

Laser Wavelengths

ALEX 755nm:

Best for the most extensive range of hair colours and types, especially light-coloured and fine hair. Also ideal for superficially embedded hair in areas such as the eyebrows and upper lip.

DIODE 810nm:

Good for all skin types and treating the arms, legs, cheeks and chin.

YAG 1064nm:

A good selection for darker skin and hair types due to its lower melanin absorption. Excellent at treating embedded hairs in areas such as the scalp, armpits and bikini line.

Candela hair removal lasers utilise only the Alex and ND:Yag wavelengths, creating machines suitable for different skin and hair types.

However, the Soprano Titanium laser, with its exclusive 3D technology, unites all three most efficient wavelengths in one device, so it can be used to treat different tissue depths and structures within the hair follicle at the same time.

This makes the soprano titanium laser the safest and most effective for treating all hair types, from fine to coarse, skin colours and styles.

Which device has the best treatment technique

Two different treatment techniques are used by modern laser machines in the removal of unwanted hair: ‘shot’ and Super Hair Reduction (SHR) technology.

NOTE: Soprano originally called & trademark the SHR mode; Soprano Hair Removal, when they first introduced diode laser technology, but several imitation lasers from china tried to copy the features and called it Super Hair Reduction

During Shot treatments all the laser energy for a small area is delivered in a single shot before moving on to the next small adjacent area.

Whereas SHR uses rapid laser pulses 10 times per second at a lower intensity for gradual heating that prevents regrowth and avoids injury to the surrounding tissue.

The SHR technique affects the melanin in the skin in a unique way, allowing it to be used on tanned skin and making sun exposure to the skin after treatment less traumatic.

Before the development of SHR, the pain and risk of burns in darker skin were very significant due to the high levels of melanin in the skin, which absorbed lots of laser energy and heated up significantly. SHR also ensures better, more uniform coverage.

Candela is a ‘per shot’ treatment, which means the skin is lasered to the required temperature to damage or destroy the hair follicle in one go. This can result in a more painful experience and a higher risk of side effects, particularly for darker skin types.

The Soprano uses SHR technology. Practitioners heat up the skin in the treated area to a point where the hair follicles are destroyed by using a gliding, In-Motion™ technique. The SHR method was pioneered by Soprano’s creators and is the only clinically proven method of laser hair removal that is virtually painless and the safest for all skin types.

Cooling Methods For Pain Free Treatments

Keeping skin cool during laser hair removal is essential to ensure clients experience a pleasant, safe and pain-free treatment session.

Modern laser removal systems tend to use 1 of 3 different built-in cooling methods:

  • Continous Cooling:
A window cooled by circulating water or other coolants.
  • Air cooling:
    Forced refrigerated air.
  • Cryogen spray:
Cryogen is sprayed onto the skin in pulses during treatment.

The newest Candela lasers use Dynamic Cooling Device technology, which involves a freezing cryogen spray that numbs the skin before laser treatment.

But while the Candela uses a pulsed cooling technique, the Soprano Titanium’s sophisticated ICE Plus technology provides a continuous cooling action to the skin via an ice-cold tip that can reach -4° Celsius.

The contact cooling allows the most effective temperature to be maintained throughout the treatment for a comfortable and virtually pain-free experience while keeping the heat within the dermis where the hair follicles are treated.

Fastest treatment time

The ‘spot size’ on a hair removal laser is the area of skin that the laser beam covers and its size tends to determine how long the session will last.

Using a laser with a wider spot size allows for much more efficient treatment, particularly when treating larger areas such as the back, legs, or chest, and means less time in the treatment room for clients.

Candela hair removal systems only feature spot sizes of up to 2.4cm².

This is compared to the Soprano’s exclusive, extra-large 4cm² head size , which delivers exceptional results in almost half the time it would take a clinician using a Candela machine, meaning clients save time and are in and out of the clinic faster.

Clinically proven results

A recent dermatologist clinical study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology supports the Soprano's exceptional safety standards and effectiveness.

The study looked at the safety and efficacy of hair reduction using the Soprano’s triple, multi-length laser. All participants reported a high satisfaction rate; average hair reduction was rated 3.4 out of 4 using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale, and the treatment had a 100 per cent safety record.

The extreme safety and effectiveness of Soprano’s SHR technology, particularly for patients with darker skin types, was proven during a laboratory assessment by doctors. Participants’ bikini lines were treated using the Soprano.

The SHR technology was shown to 'substantially reduce pain or discomfort' and result in 'little to no' prolonged redness or swelling, making 'SHR treatment more comfortable and safer than traditional laser systems.'

Which laser is right for you

Choosing which hair removal laser to treat is a big decision; while both will work well as a market leader, the Soprnao stands out for hitting both more follicles and ultimately on comfort. And when looking at all the evidence, it can be seen that the clinically & technically Soprano Titanium laser is a leader over the Candela hair removal machinery.

The cost of Candela laser hair removal is a little cheaper due to a lower investment price and older technology, but this remains a client choice of comfort and efficiency over investment size.

The Soprano Titanium Laser

When it comes to laser hair removal, clients expect the safest, most effective and painless treatment that will produce the best results: beautifully smooth and hairless skin that lasts.

The Soprano is the most advanced, clinically-proven hair removal laser by Alma, the company which pioneered hair removal technology, and represents years of extensive research and development.

This state-of-the-art machine features a unique 3D applicator head, advanced Ice Plus cooling system, SHR technology, and the benefits of three combined laser wavelengths, which means treatments are faster, virtually pain-free, and suitable for all skin types, including darker and tanned skin.

The precise nature of the Soprano allows clients to decide exactly where they want to be smooth and where to allow natural growth. Almost all areas of the body are treatable, including the face and bikini line, and, regardless of skin type, clients can enjoy a safe and clinically tested treatment that really works.
